The Hosting Nation Blog has Moved
Hello Nation,
As of today, the Hosting Nation blog is located at www.hosting-nation.com/blog. We decided on the move because self hosted versions of wordpress are much more robust, and offer more features than those hosted for free on WordPress.
Admittedly, the free version was excellent when we needed something quick to get up and running with in moments. I had wanted to do a redirect, but didn’t want to set up the blog on a subdomain as I preferred to have it in a subdirectory (I know we could have redirected the subdomain, I’ll explain why we didn’t another time)
Exporting the content from the WP hosted version to our own servers was also very, very simple and trouble free. The process worked a little something like this…
1) We exported the settings from the WP hosted version of the blog. Very simply, you would just go to “Manage > Export” in the WP toolbar
2) The theme we were using, called “Journalist” was pretty easy to find on the WP themes page. In just a couple of minutes, we had downloaded the theme and added it to the list on our self-hosted install.
3) From our new blog at Hosting Nation we selected the “Import” option. From that point, there’s a list of blogs and content managers that you can import from. Scroll to the bottom for the WP Import option
4) Browse for the Export file you downloaded previously. Upload it to the new site.
I had to install some codecs and widgets for the video option. Redefine my categories, and add my blogroll again. Still, the entire process only took me about 1/2 an hour. Not too bad.
So there it is, our blog has moved. Please update your bookmarks to the new page. Once again, in gigantic type so you can’t miss it…
